WELCOME TO DETOUR:

Our goal is to connect junior high and high school students to a life long relationship with God. We do our best to be real and authentic in all areas of life, and in all our relationships.  We don’t have it all figured out, we mess up, we learn, and we grow.  If you’re looking to be a part of a youth group that values biblical teaching, community, fun, and personal growth, this is the place to be.

workcampNE
workcampNE is coming up quickly.  This year Detour youth group will be attending workcampNE the week of July 10th – 16th.  Total cost to go will be $425.00 per student. We will of course be doing fundraising to lower that cost.  If you are unfamiliar with workcampNE or want to get more information about the camp, feel free to check them out HERE!  There will be a parents meeting coming up soon so keep checking the Detour website for updates.
Parents Page
Hey parents,

We at Detour know that the best way to help your student grow to a lifelong relationship with Christ is to partner with you to help make the lessons you teach at home, and the lessons we teach at youth group more integrated.  We thought a great way to do that would be with this parents page.  Here you can find out about our current lesson series and the main points of each discussion.

Since students aren’t always the best at communicating with parents, we even have a section that will list questions designed to get a discussion started between you and your student about the lesson that Sunday night.

Parenting is not an easy job, and we hope that we can be a resource for you as you navigate the challenges of raising a teenager!

Misconceptions:

Sometimes we learn or hear things about God or  about the Bible that completely changes what we thought we knew.  Sometimes that new information is correct, sometimes it isn’t.  This series is focused on common misconceptions about God and the Bible.  What does the Word of God really say about hard topics like same sex relationships; drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use; and works vs. grace.  Come check out this series to find out.
Discussion Questions
Discussion Questions:

Here are a few questions for you to ask your student(s) about the lesson for the night of June 12th:

1:  When Jesus says that the second most important commandment is to love one another, what is
He saying?

2:  How can we as Christians show the love of christ to those who identify as homosexual?

What We Believe

We believe in one God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  God the Father Almighty, Creator of all things visible and invisible, in Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son, our one and only Savior both fully human and fully divine, and in the Holy Spirit, active and operative part of the triune God, who indwells every Christian.

We believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice, inspired the autographs that teaches that man, created by God, willfully sinned against God and we believe forgiveness of sins is only by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.  One receives God’s grace by putting faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ and being immersed into Christ, but that none of these is sufficient in and of itself for the assurance of salvation.  We believe the Church of Jesus Christ was founded on the Day of Pentecost and consists of all Christians everywhere.

Doctrinal Statement:

We believe in one God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (Matt. 5:16,45, 6:1,4,8,9; James 1:17; John 1:1, 14:9; Gen. 1:2; John 4:24, 14:16-20; 2 Pet. 1:21)

We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of all things visible and invisible. (Gen. 1:1; Acts. 17:24-28; Heb. 11:3)

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son, our one and only Savior: (John 1:14; I John 4:9; John 3:16;                2 Pet. 3:18)

    • Who was born Jesus of Nazareth, both fully human and fully divine, conceived of the Holy Spirit by the virgin Mary.  (Matt. 21:11; John 19:19; John 1:14; Rom 5:15-17; Col. 2:9; I John 1:1; Matt. 1:18; Luke 1:26-38)
    • Who died and was buried, and Who rose again bodily from the dead on the third day.  (Luke 23:44-24:8; John 20:24-29;                     I Cor. 15:3-8)
    • Who ascended into Heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father. (Luke 22:69; Acts 1:1-9; Col. 3:1)
    • Who will return to earth to judge both the living and the dead.  (Matt. 24:36-42; John 14:1-3; Acts 1:10-11; 10:39-42; I Pet. 4:5)

We believe in the Holy Spirit:

    • Who is the active and operative part of the triune God.  (John 16:5-15; Acts 1:7-8; Rom. 8:26-27)
    • Who indwells every Christian.  (I Cor. 3:16, 6:19; 2 Tim. 1:14)

We believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word, Scripture:

    • We believe God inspired the autographs (original writings) of the Scripture and those autographs were consequently without error.  (Mark 12:36; John 14:26, 16:12-15; Acts 1:16; I Cor. 2:12-13; 2 Tim. 3:14-16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)
    • We accept the Bible as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. (Isa. 40:8; Matt. 5:18, 24:35; Rom. 15:4; Heb. 4:12)

We believe the Bible teaches that man, created by God, willfully sinned against God and is consequently lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ.  (Acts 4:12; Rom. 3:23).

We believe the Bible teaches that salvation, the forgiveness of sins, is only by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.  (Matt. 26:28; Rom. 5:9; Eph. 2:8-9; I Pet. 1:18-19; I John 1:7)
    • We believe the Bible teaches that one receives God’s grace by putting faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ and being immersed into Christ, but that none of these is sufficient in and of itself for the assurance of salvation.  (Rom. 5:1-2; Luke 24:45-47; Acts 3:19, 17:30; 2 Pet. 3:9; Matt. 10:32; Rom. 10:9; Phil. 2:11; I John 4:15; Acts 2:38; Rom. 6:1-7; Gal. 3:27; Col. 2:12; I Pet. 3:21)

We believe the Church of Jesus Christ was founded on the Day of Pentecost and consists of all Christians everywhere.  (Matt. 16:13-18; Acts 2:14-47)
